Located in Pondicherry, the DAV CBSE School grapples with the constraints of a linear and limited site. Our design challenge was to efficiently accommodate all the required spaces within the restricted area while adhering to the standards set by the CBSE. We aimed to create a building that not only meets functional requirements but also utilizes materials readily available in close proximity to the site.

To achieve this, we envisioned a monolithic structure primarily constructed using brick and concrete. This design approach not only reduces reliance on external resources but also integrates the building harmoniously with the local context. By utilizing locally sourced materials, we aimed to establish a strong connection between the school and its surroundings.

To enhance ventilation and infuse natural light throughout the day, we strategically introduced gardens between the classrooms. These green spaces not only act as pleasant outdoor areas but also promote cross ventilation, improving air circulation and creating a refreshing and conducive learning environment.

The central courtyard serves as the heart of the school, functioning as a vibrant gathering space for students to interact and engage in various activities. This central hub fosters a sense of community, providing an open and inclusive setting where students can come together, socialize, and participate in collaborative endeavours.

DAV CBSE School demonstrates our commitment to designing within the constraints of a linear site while prioritizing functionality and adherence to CBSE standards. By using locally available materials, such as brick and concrete, we aimed to create a sustainable and contextually relevant structure. The incorporation of gardens and the central courtyard further enriches the learning environment, promoting cross ventilation, natural light, and a sense of community.
